The American Ringtail Code of Ethics that is expected from all American Ringtail breeders.

BREED DEVELOPMENT ETHICS

CONCERN FOR BREED HEALTH
The first concern of this new breed will be health of the cats above all other aspect. I will not knowingly breed in harmful physical deformities or diseases. In the event a previously unknown illness or condition arises, all steps will be taken to eliminate it from the breeding population and not perpetuate it. If my breeding program involves a new or potentially new mutation, I will monitor the health of my cats with the advice of a certified veterinarian and the advice of geneticists to assess the impact of the gene(s). This will include tracking all litters born, mortality rates, and any health problems in any of the cats, whether thought to be related or not.

VALUE TO THE CAT FANCY
I feel that this breed has unique qualities that set it sufficiently apart from other breeds as to make it a valuable asset to the cat fancy. It is my goal to further the development of this breed to increase its value to the cat fancy.

GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT OF THE BREED
It is our goal to see this breed developed into a recognized breed in champion status with major registering bodies. We will develop our breed according to the guidelines of the registering bodies that we are seeking champion status in. As we meet the different levels of requirements, we will apply for advancement accordingly.

BREEDER ETHICS

CONCERN FOR CAT HEALTH
I will maintain the health of my cats above all other aspect. They will eat a nutritious and complete diet, be kept in a clean environment with plenty of fresh food and water, and receive the proper and prompt medical care when necessary. I will breed with discrimination. I will place kittens only in homes that I believe will provide a lifelong commitment of love, nurturing, appreciation and responsible care. My motive for breeding cats will be, along with the enjoyment of having my feline companions share my home, the desire to preserve and improve the fine qualities of this breed, with attention being given to improving health, temperament, and type, and will not be based on financial gain. I will thoroughly explain the serious dangers that an outdoor environment poses to a cat/kitten.

ACCURATE REPRESENTATION
I will strive to be professional in all of my dealings with prospective buyers. I will be honest, fair and as accurate as possible in all appraisals of any particular animal. I will consider it my obligation to display utmost integrity in all descriptions of ANY cat. Therefore, I will give only my opinions and will state them as such. I will not make predictions or promises such as "future grand," "guaranteed stud," "non-allergenic," "guaranteed not to molt," "no faults or genetic defects in the line," "will give so many kittens," etc. I am obligated to disclose any and all on going and/or current health-related issues regarding the cat: genetic, congenital, viral, fungal, structural, etc.

AGREEMENTS AND CERTIFICATIONS
I will not sell my kittens and cats without an understood verbal or written agreement. I will not sell cats or kittens to pet shops, brokers or any organization for research. I will expect a veterinarian's certification of alteration at the proper age, if the pet cat/kitten leaves my cattery unaltered. Before the sale is considered final and in accordance with individual state laws, registration papers and the pedigrees will be released to the new pet owners upon receipt of the proof of alteration. With the sale of each cat/kitten, I will provide a written/verbal agreement/understanding that details ALL terms of the sale including, but not limited to: a guarantee of the animal's good health at the time of purchase; the requirement for altering unless the animal has been sold as a breeding animal; a request that the purchaser have the cat/kitten examined by their veterinarian within a set number of days after possession to confirm the animal's good health. I will sell cats for breeding and show with proper registration papers, accurate pedigrees, and health records transferred to the buyer after full payment is received.

INTEGRITY, ETHICS, PROFESSIONAL STANDARDS
I will not knowingly expose any cat or person to disease or to unsanitary conditions that might promote the spread of disease. My cats and kittens will be under the regular care of a licensed veterinarian, be appropriately immunized, be tested periodically for Feline Leukemia Virus (FeLV) and Feline Immunosuppressive Virus (FIV). I will endeavor to be accessible and helpful to all inquiries. Overall, I will try to promote my New Breed. I will abide by MY OWN sales agreement as well as expect my purchasers to do the same. I will promote the NewBreedCats.com web site as well as provide education and information about my New Breed. I will strive to cultivate and encourage friendship as well as communication among members of the club and breeders everywhere. I encourage good sportsmanship and camaraderie.

Newsflash
The American Ringtail was given Registration Only status in TICA in July 2005. Although not eligable for competition in the show ring, this does allow us to track our breed through TICA registrations for the future!
